Key opinion
Legend is widely regarded as a showcase for Tom Hardy’s virtuosic dual performance, which carries the film despite its narrative flaws. While the 1960s production design and soundtrack capture an authentic period atmosphere, the film struggles with a disjointed script that balances awkwardly between a gritty crime drama and a shallow romance.
| Acting | Tom Hardy’s transformative dual performance as the Kray twins is a brilliant, career-defining achievement that anchors the entire film. | |
| Production | The film features a highly effective and immersive period-accurate production design and soundtrack that perfectly evoke 1960s London. | |
| Screenplay | The screenplay is criticized for being superficial and overly episodic, failing to provide enough depth for the supporting characters and the central romantic arc. | |
| Emotion | The film’s tone is divisive; some viewers appreciate the ironic blend of humor and violence, while others find the shift between gangster thriller and tragic romance creates an inconsistent and distancing emotional experience. |
