Key opinion
Life As We Know It is a polarizing romantic comedy that succeeds for audiences seeking a lighthearted, comforting watch while alienating those who find its script superficial. Critics and viewers are divided on whether the film effectively balances its tragic premise with comedic elements or fails to treat its subject matter with necessary gravity.
| Acting | Kathryn Heigl and Josh Duhamel deliver charismatic, engaging performances that anchor the film and elevate the chemistry between their contrasting characters. | |
| Originality | The plot relies on a highly predictable, conventional romantic comedy structure that lacks genuine surprise. | |
| Screenplay | The script fails to handle the central tragedy with depth, opting for shallow clichés and forced humor rather than authentic emotional exploration. | |
| Theme | Opinions on the film's tonal balance are divided; some appreciate the mixture of grief and joy as a realistic portrayal of life, while others find the constant tonal shifts between tragedy and comedy jarring and unprofessional. |
