A fleet of Martian spacecraft surrounds the world's major cities and all of humanity waits to see if the extraterrestrial visitors have, as they claim, "come in peace." U.S. President James Dale receives assurance from science professor Donald Kessler that the Martians' mission is a friendly one. But when a peaceful exchange ends in the total annihilation of the U.S. Congress, military men call for a full-scale nuclear retaliation.

Mars Attacks! is a polarizing cult satire that blends 1950s sci-fi kitsch with dark, nihilistic humor to lampoon American cultural and political archetypes. While many viewers appreciate its gleefully deranged tone and grotesque visual style, others find the disjointed narrative and cynical approach to be unengaging or unfunny.

Acting The film features a star-studded ensemble cast playing self-parodying caricatures, with Jack Nicholson’s dual performance frequently cited as a standout.
Production The Martian design, blending stop-motion and CGI, creates iconic and intentionally grotesque visuals that set the film apart from traditional invasion movies.
Humor The dark, absurdist humor creates a divide: some find the nihilistic satire of American institutions and patriotism hilariously biting, while others find the jokes fall flat or lack substance.
Screenplay The narrative suffers from a lack of focus, with many critics pointing to an overabundance of characters and loosely linked subplots that prevent a cohesive story.
Pacing Opinions on the pacing are split; some enjoy the film's frenetic energy as a 'radioactive sugar rush,' while others find the middle sections dull and the overall rhythm uneven.
