Key opinion
Meet Joe Black is a polarizing philosophical drama that divides audiences and critics through its ambitious scale and meditative approach. While many are captivated by the powerful performances of Anthony Hopkins and Brad Pitt, others find the three-hour runtime and narrative focus on corporate subplots to be bloated and inconsistent.
| Acting | The casting and onscreen chemistry of Anthony Hopkins and Brad Pitt serve as the film's most consistent and compelling anchors. | |
| Emotion | The film succeeds in crafting a poignant, atmospheric exploration of life and death that leaves a profound emotional impression on many viewers. | |
| Screenplay | The inclusion of an extraneous corporate takeover subplot complicates the narrative and detracts from the central philosophical themes. | |
| Runtime | The three-hour runtime is a point of deep contention; some find it a necessary, immersive experience, while others perceive it as a monotonous and exhausting drag. | |
| Pacing | Opinions on the pacing are split between those who appreciate the film's slow-burn, contemplative tempo and those who find it unnecessarily sluggish. |
