Megalopolis is widely regarded as a deeply personal, ambitious, and eccentric vision from Francis Ford Coppola that polarizes audiences between those who value its avant-garde spectacle and those who find it narratively incoherent. While the film is praised for its bold visual creativity, it is frequently criticized for a disjointed script and a lack of emotional stakes.
| Production | The film delivers stunning, imaginative production design and cinematography that create a unique, albeit surreal, aesthetic experience. | |
| Screenplay | The screenplay is heavily criticized for being disjointed, muddled, and overloaded with philosophical monologues that lack narrative cohesion. | |
| Acting | The performances are polarizing; some viewers find the cast miscast and unengaging, while others highlight standout work from actors like Shia LaBeouf and Aubrey Plaza. | |
| Theme | Thematic depth is a point of contention; some appreciate the film's examination of societal decay and the artist's role, while others dismiss these ideas as shallow, pompous, or underdeveloped. |
