Key opinion
Morbius is widely panned as a disjointed, formulaic superhero film that suffers from a weak screenplay and confusing narrative choices. While some viewers find the brief runtime and Matt Smith's performance enjoyable, the consensus highlights a lack of emotional depth, poor character development, and inconsistent CGI.
| Screenplay | The screenplay is widely considered formulaic, nonsensical, and derivative of early-2000s comic book tropes. | |
| Production | The visual effects are frequently criticized as inconsistent, particularly the 'watercolor' CGI used for the hero's powers and the action-heavy third act. | |
| Editing | The narrative feels disjointed and accelerated, with many reviewers pointing to messy editing and plot holes that leave character motivations underdeveloped. | |
| Acting | Opinions on Jared Leto's performance are divided; some praise his committed, realistic portrayal, while others find his acting emotionally flat and uninspired. | |
| Acting | Matt Smith's portrayal of the villain is a polarizing highlight; many find him charismatic and the most entertaining part of the film, while others feel his character arc is uneven. | |
| Pacing | The film's brevity is a point of contention; supporters appreciate the fast, no-nonsense pacing, while detractors argue it leads to a lack of necessary character development. |
