Key opinion
Nothing But Trouble is a polarizing cult film defined by its surreal, grotesque aesthetic and Dan Aykroyd’s ambitious, unconventional vision. While some viewers celebrate its inventive dark comedy and biting satire, others are repelled by its jarring tone and perceived lack of coherent humor.
| Production | Dan Aykroyd’s transformative makeup and grotesque performance as the judge serve as the film’s most distinct, unforgettable visual centerpiece. | |
| Humor | The film’s tone is deeply divisive, functioning for some as a brilliant, surreal subversion of American horror tropes, while others find it to be a nauseating and joyless experience. | |
| Screenplay | The narrative structure and plot logic are points of intense contention, labeled by supporters as refreshingly inventive and by detractors as an illogical, incoherent mess. | |
| Acting | Performance quality is highly inconsistent, with Dan Aykroyd and Demi Moore often praised for their commitment, while Chevy Chase’s lead performance is frequently cited as a misfire. |
