Key opinion
The film is widely praised as a visually stunning and atmospheric romantic fairy tale that serves as a significant milestone for Russian fantasy production. However, it faces sharp criticism for being a superficial adaptation that abandons the depth of its source material in favor of generic, teen-oriented melodrama.
| Production | High-quality visual effects, detailed costume design, and immersive world-building create a compelling and authentic aesthetic experience. | |
| Score | The film’s score and atmospheric songs, particularly the 'Lullaby of Silence' and 'Dragon Song,' are central to its emotional resonance and fairy-tale tone. | |
| Acting | The performances are sharply debated, with some viewers finding the leads endearing and fitting for the genre, while others dismiss them as amateurish, wooden, or prone to overacting. | |
| Screenplay | The screenplay is heavily criticized for being thin, derivative, and lacking the complexity or substance of the original novel. | |
| Adaptation | The film serves as a point of contention for fans of the source material, as it discards almost the entire plot and character depth of D'yachenko’s 'Ritual' to focus on a simplified romance. |
