Key opinion
Ouija: Origin of Evil is widely considered a significant improvement over its predecessor, offering a more atmospheric and character-driven experience. While critics praise the strong performances and retro visual style, opinions remain divided on the effectiveness of the scares and the strength of the final act.
| Acting | The film features compelling performances, particularly from the young actresses, which provide the emotional grounding the story requires. | |
| Direction | The direction successfully establishes a retro 1960s atmosphere that elevates the material beyond a standard studio horror sequel. | |
| Screenplay | The script relies on familiar genre tropes and predictable plot points that limit the film's overall impact. | |
| Emotion | The film's scares are divisive; some viewers appreciate the tension and atmospheric buildup, while others find the reliance on jump scares and clichés ineffective or boring. | |
| Ending | The conclusion of the film is a point of contention, with some finding the final act and resolution abrupt or underwhelming compared to the preceding buildup. |
