Pitch Perfect 2 is widely considered an inferior follow-up to the original, struggling with a disjointed narrative and a lack of the first film's charm. While fans of the cast and musical performances still find enjoyment in the lighthearted atmosphere, many critics felt the sequel suffered from bloated subplots and forced character dynamics.

Acting The film functions primarily on the established chemistry and charisma of the ensemble cast.
Score Musical arrangements and vocal performances remain a standout highlight, frequently cited as a primary reason to watch.
Screenplay The narrative feels bloated and unfocused, frequently sidelining the central relationship between Beca and Jesse for unnecessary subplots.
Humor Humor is inconsistent; some find the crude delivery hilarious, while others argue the jokes are forced, juvenile, and less effective than the original.
Originality The plot structure is heavily criticized for being a clichéd, fragmented imitation of the first film that lacks meaningful character development.
Ending The final performance provides a memorable emotional payoff, though opinions diverge on whether the preceding narrative earned that emotional climax.
