Key opinion
Polaroid is widely viewed as a mediocre and unoriginal horror film that suffers from derivative plot tropes and noticeable budgetary constraints. While the central concept of a cursed camera is considered intriguing, the execution is hampered by weak character development and inconsistent visual aesthetics.
| Originality | The film's core premise of a cursed camera that dictates the fate of its subjects is an effective and intriguing genre hook. | |
| Production | Low-budget CGI and technical shortcomings significantly undermine the impact of the film's supernatural threats and creature design. | |
| Screenplay | The script leans heavily on recycled horror tropes and genre clichés, failing to distinguish itself from more successful predecessors. | |
| Acting | Opinions on the lead performance are polarized; some critics find Kathryn Prescott’s portrayal insufficient for audience engagement, while others acknowledge the cast's professional competence despite being hampered by shallow character writing. | |
| Pacing | The film’s pacing divides viewers: some find the first half a standard, unengaging slog, whereas others feel the tension builds effectively into an interesting, if underwhelming, final act. |
