Fourteen years after Third Impact, Shinji Ikari awakens to a world he does not remember. He hasn't aged. Much of Earth is laid in ruins, NERV has been dismantled, and people who he once protected have turned against him. Befriending the enigmatic Kaworu Nagisa, Shinji continues the fight against the angels and realizes the fighting is far from over, even when it could be against his former allies. The characters' struggles continue amidst the battles against the angels and each other, spiraling down to what could inevitably be the end of the world.

Evangelion: 3.0 You Can (Not) Redo is a polarizing entry in the Rebuild tetralogy, praised for its technical ambition and visual audacity while widely criticized for its narrative opacity. While some viewers find its radical departure from the original series' trajectory to be a bold, refreshing reinvention, many others argue that the lack of exposition regarding the fourteen-year time skip results in a fragmented and emotionally disconnected experience.

Production The high-fidelity animation and surreal, apocalyptic imagery deliver a technically dazzling and visually distinct experience.
Score Shiro Sagisu’s musical score maintains the franchise’s high standards and effectively reinforces the film's tense, melancholic atmosphere.
Screenplay The film’s refusal to explain the fourteen-year narrative gap leaves critical plot points and character motivations feeling hollow or inaccessible to the audience.
Theme The character portrayals represent a radical and divisive shift, with many viewers finding the heroes’ behavior and emotional arcs to be jarring or lacking in logical consistency compared to the original series.
Pacing The narrative functions as an incomplete, disjointed fragment of a larger story, frustrating those who require self-contained pacing and clear resolution.
