Key opinion
Raya and the Last Dragon is widely praised for its vibrant, technically impressive animation and Southeast Asian-inspired world-building. However, opinions diverge significantly on the writing, with some finding the story emotionally resonant and empowering while others criticize it as formulaic, illogical, and reliant on repetitive tropes.
| Production | The animation is consistently lauded for its high technical quality, vibrant color palette, and immersive, culturally-inspired landscapes. | |
| Acting | The supporting cast, particularly the diverse misfit allies, adds depth and humor that effectively complements the protagonist's journey. | |
| Screenplay | The narrative structure is divisive, with some viewers appreciating the classic Disney emotional resonance while others dismiss it as predictable, shallow, and riddled with plot holes. | |
| Humor | Humor is a point of contention, characterized by some as a charming addition to the adventure, while others find the gags crude, repetitive, or irritatingly out of place. | |
| Ending | The film's tone regarding its conclusion is split, as some feel the ending delivers a satisfying, heartwarming resolution, while others argue it avoids real consequences, undermining the stakes. |
