Key opinion
Rings is largely perceived as a redundant and uninspired sequel that fails to recapture the genuine terror of its predecessors. While some viewers appreciate its attempts to expand the franchise's mythology, most critics and audiences find it to be a generic, cliché-ridden thriller devoid of emotional depth.
| Originality | The film fails as a horror experience, relying on tired clichés and unoriginal scares rather than building true atmosphere. | |
| Acting | The characters are frequently described as flat, cardboard-like, and lacking the emotional complexity needed for the audience to invest in their survival. | |
| Screenplay | The plot is widely criticized for being predictable and disjointed, with some finding it more of a lackluster detective mystery than a horror film. | |
| Direction | Opinions are divided on the film's shift in direction: some appreciate the attempt to explore Samara’s past through a detective-thriller lens, while others feel it abandons the franchise's core identity. | |
| Theme | Viewers are split on the overall quality; while a minority find the exploration of the cursed video's mechanics and the new mythology engaging, the majority dismiss it as a hollow, money-grabbing sequel. |
