Key opinion
Sanctum is widely praised for its immersive, hyper-realistic cave cinematography and technical atmosphere, which succeeds in conveying the visceral dangers of deep-sea exploration. However, the film is deeply divisive regarding its narrative, with many critics finding the screenplay formulaic and predictable, contrasting with those who appreciate its grounded, realistic approach to human survival.
| Cinematography | The cinematography and production design deliver stunning, hyper-realistic cave landscapes that effectively immerse the viewer in a claustrophobic and perilous environment. | |
| Emotion | The film succeeds in establishing a heavy, palpable atmosphere of dread and physical intensity that resonates with viewers seeking a realistic survival experience. | |
| Screenplay | The screenplay is viewed by many as a generic disaster-movie template, relying on recycled tropes and predictable character arcs. | |
| Acting | Opinions on the acting are polarized: some viewers praise the cast for their gritty, realistic portrayals of desperate survival, while others dismiss the performances as weak or unconvincing. | |
| Pacing | The pacing is a point of contention; some feel the film masterfully builds tension through a slow, contemplative survival experience, while others perceive it as lacking drive and momentum. |
