Key opinion
Season of the Witch is generally viewed as an atmospheric but uneven fantasy-adventure that relies heavily on the screen presence of its leads to compensate for a weak, cliché-ridden script. While many appreciate the dark, grim aesthetic and visual world-building, the film is frequently criticized for its historical inaccuracies and a disappointing, cartoonish conclusion.
| Acting | Nicolas Cage and Ron Perlman display strong on-screen chemistry that anchors the film and elevates the material. | |
| Production | The film successfully establishes a dark, grim, and immersive medieval atmosphere through its production design and cinematography. | |
| Screenplay | The screenplay is widely criticized for being filled with narrative clichés, historical anachronisms, and a lack of depth. | |
| Ending | The ending is frequently singled out as a weak, sloppy, or overly cartoonish conclusion that fails to live up to the tension built during the rest of the film. | |
| Production | The visual effects draw divided opinions; some find them striking and effective for the genre, while others dismiss them as mediocre, dated, or artificial. |
