While the film is widely praised for its atmospheric tension and strong lead acting, its handling of mental health themes and its unconventional, twist-heavy finale remain significant points of contention.
| Acting | James McAvoy delivers a career-best, versatile performance that effectively anchors the film by distinguishing between multiple personas. | |
| Acting | Anya Taylor-Joy provides a strong, compelling counterpoint to McAvoy, balancing emotional depth with an understated sense of strength. | |
| Cinematography | The cinematography and score work in tandem to create an effective, seamless thriller atmosphere that mirrors the fractured nature of the protagonist. | |
| Theme | The film's depiction of Dissociative Identity Disorder is criticized for lacking nuanced exploration, creating significant debate over its sensitivity and accuracy. | |
| Ending | The third-act twist and connection to the Unbreakable universe polarizes viewers, with some finding it a brilliant, bold reframing and others viewing it as an anticlimactic or forced narrative leap. |
