Key opinion
Stop! Or My Mom Will Shoot is a polarizing action-comedy that is frequently dismissed by critics as one of Stallone’s weakest efforts, yet it retains a loyal following among audiences. Fans appreciate its lighthearted, nostalgic tone and heartwarming message about parent-child relationships, while detractors find the humor forced and the script simplistic.

| Originality | The film effectively uses slapstick and situational irony to subvert Sylvester Stallone’s tough-guy action image. | |
| Theme | The underlying theme of the complexities of parental love and adult independence provides a genuine, touching foundation for the comedy. | |
| Humor | Critics and fans are split on the humor; some find it charmingly light and unpretentious, while others describe it as flat, repetitive, or forced. | |
| Screenplay | Opinions on the narrative quality are divided between those who see it as a simple, enjoyable romp and those who criticize the plot as weak and poorly constructed. |
