Key opinion
Thanksgiving is widely regarded as a competent, gore-heavy slasher that successfully leans into 80s and 90s horror tropes. While critics are divided on its lack of originality and thin characterization, it is generally praised by fans of the genre for its inventive kills and effective, high-energy pacing.
| Production | The film delivers highly creative and graphically intense practical gore effects that satisfy fans of the slasher genre. | |
| Pacing | The film maintains a tight, relentless pace that effectively sustains engagement throughout its runtime. | |
| Originality | The narrative leans heavily on established slasher tropes and predictable genre conventions, offering little innovation for those seeking a fresh take on the horror format. | |
| Screenplay | Opinions on the screenplay are split: some appreciate its straightforward, homage-driven structure, while others find the characters to be hollow functions and the plot to be illogical or tedious. | |
| Ending | The final act is a point of contention, with some viewers enjoying the payoff and others finding the shift in tone and the resolution of the mystery to be disappointing or messy. |
