Key opinion
That Awkward Moment is widely regarded as a generic and cliché-ridden romantic comedy that relies heavily on its attractive lead cast rather than narrative substance. While a minority of viewers find it a harmless or pleasant watch, most critics and audiences dismiss it as a hollow, poorly written endeavor with an uneven tone.
| Score | The soundtrack is a consistent highlight, frequently cited as the most enjoyable element of an otherwise forgettable film. | |
| Screenplay | The film relies on a collection of tired, unoriginal tropes that offer little in the way of narrative innovation. | |
| Humor | The humor is frequently criticized as vulgar, cheap, or ineffective, failing to land as a cohesive comedic experience. | |
| Acting | Opinions on the lead performances are split: some find the charismatic trio of Efron, Teller, and Jordan to be the film's only saving grace, while others believe their acting is uninspired and wasted on a vapid script. |
