Key opinion
The Animal is a polarizing comedy that relies heavily on Rob Schneider's signature slapstick style and crude, often vulgar, humor. While fans appreciate its lighthearted nature and absurd premise, critics argue the film suffers from a predictable script and a lack of depth.
| Acting | Rob Schneider's lead performance is the primary anchor, effectively capturing both the comedic and romantic aspects of his underdog persona. | |
| Production | The production design, specifically the creature props and costumes, successfully enhances the film's absurd premise. | |
| Humor | The humor is polarizing, with supporters finding it genuinely hilarious and eccentric, while detractors view it as stale, juvenile, and excessively reliant on 'toilet' gags. | |
| Screenplay | Opinions on the screenplay are divided; proponents find the narrative charming and rewatchable, while critics dismiss it as an incompetent, predictable, and shallow vehicle for Schneider. | |
| Pacing | While intended to be a lighthearted experience, some scenes are considered overlong and occasionally test the viewer's patience. |
