Key opinion
The 1998 adaptation of The Avengers is widely considered a creative failure, frequently criticized for its incoherent plot and inability to capture the spirit of the original series. While a small segment of viewers appreciates its surreal, parodic tone and technical production values, the consensus remains overwhelmingly negative due to poor character execution and a lack of narrative depth.
| Screenplay | The film's plot is frequently cited as chaotic, meaningless, and entirely forgettable. | |
| Score | The score is highlighted as one of the few consistently high-quality elements of the production. | |
| Acting | Opinions on the lead performances are deeply split: some find the cast miscast and uninspired, while others praise the actors' grace and their ability to convey a specific, gentlemanly British charm. | |
| Adaptation | The film's adaptation fidelity divides viewers; detractors argue it fails to capture the series' essence, whereas proponents praise it as a successful, knowingly absurd parody of the source material. |
