Key opinion
The Classic is widely celebrated as a deeply emotional and sincere masterpiece of Korean melodrama, masterfully interweaving past and present narratives of love. While a few critics find specific comedic or symbolic elements forced, the majority are profoundly moved by its aesthetic warmth, poignant musical score, and exceptional performances.
| Acting | Son Ye-jin delivers a luminous and deeply layered performance that grounds the film's dual narratives. | |
| Score | The violin and piano-heavy score serves as a vital emotional conduit, perfectly harmonizing with the film’s romantic and sorrowful tone. | |
| Emotion | The film succeeds in elevating its romantic narrative into a timeless, heart-wrenching exploration of love and destiny. | |
| Screenplay | The narrative's shift between past and present effectively draws parallels between generational love stories, though some viewers find the modern-day triangle less compelling than the historical one. | |
| Originality | While many praise the sun-drenched and warm visual aesthetic, some sequences—specifically those involving slapstick humor or heavy-handed symbolism—feel jarring or nauseating to certain viewers. |
