The prehistoric Croods family live in a particularly dangerous moment in time. Patriarch Grug, his mate Ugga, teenage daughter Eep, son Thunk, and feisty Gran gather food by day and huddle together in a cave at night. When a more evolved caveman named Guy arrives on the scene, Grug is distrustful, but it soon becomes apparent that Guy is correct about the impending destruction of their world.

The Croods is widely regarded as a visually stunning and energetic family adventure that balances slapstick humor with a familiar generational narrative. While some critics find the plot predictable and formulaic, most audiences appreciate its colorful world-building and heartwarming focus on family bonds.

Production The film features top-tier, vibrant animation with creative creature design and expressive character rigging.
Theme The central conflict between Grug's conservative protectionism and Eep's desire for change provides a reliable, resonant emotional core.
Originality The narrative follows a generic 'DreamWorks' formula that feels predictable to older viewers while remaining engaging for families.
Humor The humor relies on a mix of inventive slapstick and situational gags, though reactions range from genuinely amused to finding the jokes thin and childish.
