Key opinion
Master with the Broken Fingers is a low-budget, foundational relic that serves primarily as a historical curiosity for Jackie Chan fans. While the film is marred by poor production values and a derivative, clichéd plot, the performances of Chan and co-star Siu Tin Yuen offer a glimpse of the charisma that would eventually define their careers.
| Acting | Siu Tin Yuen delivers the standout performance, providing the necessary humor and dynamism to elevate the otherwise modest production. | |
| Screenplay | The plot follows a predictable, formulaic revenge structure typical of 1970s martial arts cinema with little to offer in terms of narrative innovation. | |
| Production | The film suffers from transparently low-budget aesthetics, including poorly constructed costumes and jarring technical errors. | |
| Acting | Opinions on the action sequences are split; some viewers appreciate the raw quality of the choreography, while others find the staging and fight quality poor compared to later works. | |
| Editing | Editing remains a major point of contention; many critics point to the clunky, disjointed nature of the final cut, which incorporates mismatched footage from later projects. |
