Key opinion
The Danish Girl is a visually polished and artistically crafted film that succeeds through powerful lead performances and an elegant treatment of transgender history. However, it faces consistent criticism for sacrificing historical nuance and psychological depth in favor of a stylized, occasionally superficial, and melodramatic narrative.
| Acting | Alicia Vikander delivers a nuanced and compassionate performance that anchors the film's emotional core. | |
| Production | The film utilizes static, painterly compositions and high-end aesthetics to create a visually striking experience. | |
| Screenplay | The script is criticized for reducing a complex historical biography into a simplified, surface-level melodrama that ignores factual depth. | |
| Acting | Eddie Redmayne’s performance divides opinion; some find his physical embodiment of the transition authentic and moving, while others see it as relying on mannerisms that prevent full immersion. | |
| Emotion | Opinions on the film's tone are split; some viewers find the romantic narrative profoundly touching, while others feel the emotional delivery is forced and lacks genuine psychological resonance. |
