Key opinion
The Deliverance is widely considered a disjointed effort that fails to effectively marry intense domestic drama with supernatural horror tropes. While the performances of Andra Day and Glenn Close are highlighted as individual high points, the film ultimately suffers from a lack of cohesive direction and a reliance on formulaic storytelling.
| Acting | Andra Day and Glenn Close deliver strong, commendable performances that stand out despite the film's flaws. | |
| Direction | Lee Daniels' direction fails to create an immersive atmosphere and struggles to maintain a consistent tone across the film. | |
| Originality | The film leans too heavily on predictable demon tropes, resulting in an uninspired and formulaic exorcism narrative. | |
| Screenplay | The narrative is divided between a well-rendered psychological drama about domestic struggle and an ineffective, diluted supernatural horror element. |
