Key opinion
The Descent: Part 2 is a polarizing sequel that fails to capture the claustrophobic dread and artistic nuance of the original. While some viewers appreciate the high-intensity monster action and continuity, most critics argue it descends into generic, formulaic horror that lacks the tension and thematic depth of its predecessor.
| Originality | The film frequently relies on predictable jump scares and excessive gore, trading the original's atmospheric terror for generic slasher tropes. | |
| Screenplay | The narrative choice to resurrect the protagonist from the first film and force her back into the caves undermines the impact of the original's definitive ending. | |
| Originality | The monsters are depicted much more frequently than in the first film, which reduces their effectiveness and replaces psychological dread with standard creature-feature action. | |
| Acting | The acting is criticized as wooden and forced, with characters often making illogical decisions that strain viewer suspension of disbelief. | |
| Pacing | Audiences are divided on whether the film functions as a cohesive continuation; some appreciate the expanded monster lore and relentless pacing, while others find the tone stale and the pacing uneven. |
