Key opinion
The 2005 remake of The Fog is widely considered a failure that lacks the atmospheric tension and suspense of the original. While a small subset of viewers finds it an acceptable, albeit unremarkable, thriller, the general consensus criticizes its weak performances, trite screenplay, and ineffective use of CGI.
| Direction | The film fails to replicate the suspense and dread of Carpenter’s original, substituting genuine mystery with cheap jump scares. | |
| Acting | The performances, particularly those of leads Tom Welling and Maggie Grace, are frequently described as wooden, unengaging, or mediocre. | |
| Screenplay | The screenplay is widely criticized for being confusing, logically thin, and filled with shallow character development. | |
| Production | Opinions on the visual presentation are divided: some appreciate the scenic atmosphere and specific imagery, while many others dismiss the excessive CGI fog as unrealistic and poor. | |
| Pacing | Reactions to the film's entertainment value are polarized; some find it a dull, sleep-inducing failure, while others perceive it as a competent, watchable, or average thriller. |
