Key opinion
The Great Muppet Caper is widely regarded as a lighthearted and entertaining family comedy that leans into its meta-parody roots. While it lacks the emotional resonance and narrative structure of its predecessor, it remains a charming showcase for musical spectacle and celebrity cameos.
| Originality | The film succeeds as a playful, genre-bending parody that effectively satirizes crime capers, musicals, and classic detective tropes. | |
| Production | The production design, highlighted by the intricate and imaginative synchronized swimming sequence, remains a visual standout. | |
| Acting | A stellar roster of live-action guest stars provides a strong human anchor for the puppet-led chaos. | |
| Screenplay | The film acts as a straightforward continuation that sacrifices the emotional depth and character-building arcs found in the original film for a focus on episodic musical numbers. |
