Key opinion
The Haunted Mansion is generally regarded as a lightweight, visually impressive family film that leans heavily on its production design and the charisma of its lead. While some audiences find it to be a charming and nostalgic piece of magical escapism, others view the screenplay as thin and ultimately underwhelming for a major studio production.
| Production | The production design and visual effects, particularly the detailed mansion sets and atmospheric ghosts, are consistently praised for their quality. | |
| Acting | Terence Stamp is widely recognized for his standout performance, bringing a commanding and sinister presence as the butler, Ramsley. | |
| Acting | Eddie Murphy's performance is divisive; some viewers find his comedic style engaging and essential to the film's success, while others feel his performance is lackluster or fails to elevate a weak script. | |
| Screenplay | The screenplay is viewed by many as thin and clichéd, lacking the depth or comedic sophistication to fully realize the film's potential. | |
| Emotion | The film's tonal balance is contested, with critics and viewers debating whether it successfully mixes horror and comedy or if the two elements clash and weaken each other. |
