Key opinion
The Interview is a divisive political satire that relies heavily on crude, low-brow humor and the established chemistry of its leads. While some viewers appreciate its bold, absurd mockery of authoritarianism, many critics find the screenplay shallow and the reliance on toilet humor a significant detraction from its intended message.
| Acting | The comedic partnership between James Franco and Seth Rogen is the film's primary anchor, though their performances elicit varying levels of praise for their commitment to the characters' absurdity. | |
| Screenplay | The screenplay is frequently criticized for replacing substantive political critique with an over-reliance on vulgar, toilet-based humor that feels juvenile rather than satirical. | |
| Pacing | The pacing and narrative structure falter as the film progresses, with many viewers noting that the plot loses logic and focus during the second half. | |
| Theme | The film functions as a polarizing piece of political provocation, with opinions split on whether it serves as a brave satire of dictatorship or a simplistic and reckless exercise in American propaganda. |
