Key opinion
The consensus on The Last Airbender is overwhelmingly negative, with the film frequently criticized for its disjointed narrative, wooden performances, and failure to capture the spirit of the source material. While a small minority of viewers appreciate its visual spectacle and status as a standalone fantasy, most audiences and critics view it as a superficial and poorly executed adaptation.
| Screenplay | The film suffers from a fragmented and incoherent screenplay that fails to properly pace the story or explain character motivations. | |
| Acting | The performances are widely criticized for being wooden and lacking the depth or charm of the original animated characters. | |
| Production | The visual effects are polarizing; some viewers appreciate the high-budget spectacle and elemental designs, while others find the reliance on CGI excessive and superficial. | |
| Runtime | The decision to condense a complex series into a short runtime leads to a rushed, surface-level narrative that omits critical character development. | |
| Adaptation | The adaptation is highly divisive, with some viewers valuing its attempt to reinterpret the source material, while most fans view it as a betrayal of the original's tone and themes. |
