Key opinion
The Little Hours is an unconventional, irreverent comedy that relies heavily on its charismatic lead performances and stylized medieval aesthetic. While its commitment to anachronistic humor and raunchy tone makes it a refreshing alternative to standard comedies for some, others find the loose adaptation of Boccaccio and uneven execution disappointing.
| Acting | The primary trio of Aubrey Plaza, Alison Brie, and Kate Micucci delivers a charismatic and highly effective comedic performance. | |
| Production | The film excels in its visual execution, featuring high-quality costumes, period-appropriate interiors, and vivid cinematography that effectively captures the atmosphere. | |
| Screenplay | The screenplay's commitment to explicit, crude humor and contemporary slang is praised as refreshingly bold by some, but criticized by others as an alienating and superficial departure from the source material. | |
| Adaptation | The film's use of improvised dialogue and anachronistic character behaviors creates a divide between those who enjoy the modern ironic twist on Boccaccio and those who feel it ruins the adaptation's integrity. | |
| Pacing | Opinions on the film's structure are split: some appreciate the tight 90-minute runtime and lack of filler, while others find the first half to be poorly paced or the narrative to be insufficiently cohesive. |
