Key opinion
The Lodge is a polarizing psychological thriller that prioritizes atmosphere and visual precision over traditional genre scares. While many critics laud its technical craft and intense lead performance, others find the deliberate, slow-burn pacing and narrative structure frustrating or predictable.
| Acting | Riley Keough delivers a compelling, nuanced performance as the traumatized Grace, effectively anchoring the film's psychological weight. | |
| Production | The cinematography and production design utilize geometric precision and claustrophobic framing to masterfully evoke a sense of inevitable dread. | |
| Pacing | The film's slow-burn, meditative approach to storytelling succeeds for those seeking psychological immersion, but feels listless and boring to viewers expecting conventional horror thrills. | |
| Ending | The narrative reveals and final twists leave audiences divided: some find them uniquely unsettling and effective, while others dismiss them as nonsensical, predictable, or lacking in payoff. | |
| Screenplay | While the film excels at maintaining a haunting mood, the screenplay is frequently criticized for failing to provide enough narrative substance or character depth to sustain its lengthy runtime. |
