The Muppet Movie is regarded as a charming, wholesome origin story that showcases the innovative puppetry of Jim Henson. While fans appreciate its lighthearted musical tone and tight scripting, the film's appeal remains sharply divided along cultural lines, with some viewers finding the humor opaque or outdated.
| Originality | The film effectively serves as a whimsical and heartfelt origin story for the iconic Muppet ensemble. | |
| Screenplay | The screenplay is praised for being well-structured and free of unnecessary filler material. | |
| Cinematography | Cinematography by Isidore Mankofsky is highlighted as a technical strength of the production. | |
| Humor | The humor is polarizing, with some praising its fun, wholesome nature while others find the jokes weak or culturally inaccessible. | |
| Culture | Cultural relevance remains a point of contention, as the brand's specific brand of puppet satire does not always resonate with non-American audiences unfamiliar with the franchise's history. |
