Key opinion
The Night Clerk is widely viewed as a disjointed and underwhelming thriller that fails to effectively balance its generic elements of mystery and romance. While the premise of an autistic protagonist observing guests shows potential, the execution is hampered by a lack of tension, poor pacing, and an unsatisfying narrative resolution.
| Screenplay | The narrative fails to generate tension, resulting in a film that lacks the suspense expected of a thriller. | |
| Ending | The film suffers from a fragmented structure and a lack of thematic resolution, leaving key plot points and character arcs feeling underdeveloped. | |
| Pacing | The pacing is stagnant, with a slow-moving plot that struggles to maintain engagement between its key thriller moments. | |
| Acting | Opinions on Tye Sheridan's performance are divided; some critics praise his nuanced portrayal of the protagonist's condition, while others find the character unsympathetic or inconsistent. |
