Trailers The Possession of Michael King

The film tells the story of documentary filmmaker Michael King (Shane Johnson), who doesn’t believe in God or the Devil. Following the sudden death of his wife, Michael decides to make his next film about the search for the existence of the supernatural, making himself the center of the experiment – allowing demonologists, necromancers, and various practitioners of the occult to try the deepest and darkest spells and rituals they can find on him – in the hopes that when they fail, he’ll once and for all have proof that religion, spiritualism, and the paranormal are nothing more than myth. But something does happen. An evil and horrifying force has taken over Michael King. And it will not let him go.

The Possession of Michael King is widely viewed as a derivative, modest debut that relies heavily on genre tropes established by Paranormal Activity and similar found-footage films. While critics and audiences frequently find the plot predictable and the scares underwhelming, the film is often sustained by a committed central performance that keeps the experience watchable for dedicated genre fans.

Acting Shane Johnson delivers a charismatic and convincing performance that anchors the film and provides the primary emotional weight.

Screenplay The screenplay is widely criticized for being formulaic, predictable, and lacking in genuinely surprising narrative twists.
Emotion The horror elements are frequently described as underwhelming, with many viewers finding the jump scares to be artificial, cliché, or ineffective.
Pacing The pacing divides opinions, with some finding the tight 83-minute runtime effective for maintaining engagement, while others perceive it as sluggish and padded.
