Key opinion
The Princess is widely regarded as a lean, energetic action spectacle that successfully flips traditional fairy-tale tropes by placing a martial-arts-trained heroine at the center. While critics and audiences praise the film's combat choreography and Joey King's physical commitment, the consensus identifies a lack of narrative substance and thin character development as significant drawbacks.
| Direction | The inventive and varied martial arts choreography serves as the film's primary strength and central attraction. | |
| Acting | Joey King anchors the film with a dedicated physical performance, successfully transitioning into a believable action lead. | |
| Screenplay | The screenplay relies on paper-thin characters and a rudimentary plot, serving as little more than a flimsy excuse for continuous fight sequences. | |
| Theme | The film effectively deconstructs the 'damsel in distress' trope, offering a refreshing, modern inversion of classic fairy-tale gender roles. | |
| Pacing | Opinions on the action are split; while some find the choreography stylistically impressive and reminiscent of top-tier genre films, others find the repetitive nature of the fights to be monotonous and lacking in long-term impact. |
