Key opinion
The Switch is generally viewed as a modest, formulaic romantic comedy that leans more heavily into melodrama than humor. While the central premise divides opinion, the film is consistently praised for the performance of the child actor, Thomas Robinson, and criticized for its predictable, uneven script.
| Acting | Thomas Robinson's portrayal of Sebastian is the film's standout, providing the most touching and memorable moments. | |
| Acting | Jennifer Aniston's performance is polarizing, with some viewers finding her reliably charming while others label it as unremarkable or repetitive. | |
| Acting | Jason Bateman delivers a characteristically neurotic and sympathetic performance that anchors the emotional weight of the film. | |
| Humor | The humor is widely regarded as a weak point, with critics finding it either ineffective, awkward, or tonally misaligned with the drama. | |
| Screenplay | The screenplay is criticized for relying on clichés and predictable plot beats that fail to offer a fresh perspective on the rom-com genre. | |
| Emotion | The film's tonal balance between comedy and drama is divisive, with some finding it a pleasant, low-stakes watch and others finding it incoherent or boring. |
