Key opinion
The Woman in Red is widely viewed as a mediocre 1980s romantic comedy that relies heavily on nostalgia rather than narrative strength. While the film is largely regarded as dated and lacking genuine humor, it remains notable primarily for the enduring success of Stevie Wonder's iconic soundtrack contribution.
| Score | Stevie Wonder's soundtrack contribution provides the film's only undeniable artistic triumph. | |
| Culture | The film functions as a naive, dated relic of 1980s cinema that fails to resonate with modern sensibilities. | |
| Acting | Gene Wilder’s performance lacks the elegance and charm of the original source material’s lead, coming across as infantile and irritating. | |
| Screenplay | Opinions on the film's value are divided: some view it as an easily watchable, nostalgic artifact, while others find the pursuit-driven plot and character dynamics fundamentally off-putting and unfunny. |
