Key opinion
Tom & Jerry (2021) is largely viewed as a hollow, nostalgia-baiting adaptation that fails to translate the frantic energy of short-form cartoons into a feature-length narrative. While younger audiences may find the physical comedy and slapstick entertaining, adult viewers and fans of the original shorts generally criticize the film for its forced live-action integration and thin plot.
| Accessibility | The film succeeds in providing simple, wholesome entertainment that effectively keeps younger children laughing. | |
| Screenplay | The narrative structure feels redundant and paper-thin, failing to justify its feature-length runtime. | |
| Acting | The live-action performances are perceived as underutilized or lacking chemistry with the animated characters. | |
| Production | Opinions on the visual integration are divided: some praise the technical blending of animation and live-action, while others find the aesthetic forced and low-grade compared to classics like 'Who Framed Roger Rabbit'. | |
| Humor | The film’s humor is highly polarizing, ranging from effective physical slapstick for kids to grating, contemporary musical choices and juvenile gags that alienate long-time fans. |
