Key opinion
U.S. Marshals is widely viewed as a competent but formulaic 1990s action thriller that lacks the narrative depth and prestige of its predecessor, The Fugitive. While the film is praised for its high-energy spectacle and the strong screen presence of Tommy Lee Jones and Wesley Snipes, critics are divided on whether it succeeds as a standalone entertainment or feels like a hollow, repetitive B-movie.
| Acting | Tommy Lee Jones delivers a reliable, stoic performance that effectively anchors the film's action sequences. | |
| Originality | The film prioritizes large-scale spectacle, such as the plane crash and highway stunts, over the complex detective work found in the original. | |
| Screenplay | The script is frequently described as predictable and formulaic, relying heavily on genre cliches rather than innovative storytelling. | |
| Acting | Opinions on the lead performances are split; while some find the chemistry between Jones, Snipes, and Downey Jr. compelling, others consider the acting wooden or unmemorable. | |
| Adaptation | The film’s status as a sequel is debated, with some viewers appreciating it as a fun companion to The Fugitive and others finding it to be a pointless, inferior imitation. |
