Key opinion
Unfriended: Dark Web is generally viewed as an effective, if flawed, evolution of its predecessor’s screen-capture format. While many appreciate its transition to more grounded, suspenseful hacker-thriller tropes, critics remain divided on the realism of the plot and the depth of its characters.
| Originality | The computer-screen perspective effectively creates an immersive, claustrophobic experience for the viewer | |
| Theme | The shift from supernatural elements to realistic cyber-thriller stakes provides a more plausible and urgent sense of dread | |
| Acting | Performances are generally considered a step up from the previous film, offering more convincing reactions within the unique constraints of the format | |
| Screenplay | The film is hindered by logical lapses and unrealistic depictions of hacker capabilities that occasionally break immersion | |
| Pacing | The three-act structure is divisive, with the slow, ordinary first half boring some viewers while others appreciate the eventual escalation into a fast-paced thriller | |
| Screenplay | Character development is widely criticized, with many finding the cast to be flat and uninteresting placeholders |
