Key opinion
This television play attempts to capture the human experience of the Leningrad blockade through a focus on communal life rather than direct combat. While some appreciate its poetic, internal look at resilience, others find the film's omission of the siege's harsh, brutal realities to be a significant historical and artistic failure.
| Acting | Freundlich and Vasileva deliver compelling performances that anchor the emotional weight of the film. | |
| Score | The use of Strauss's music provides a distinct, recurring emotional motif that ties the narrative together. | |
| Theme | The focus on domestic life and communal apartment dynamics provides a unique, non-combat perspective on the war. | |
| Originality | Critics divide over whether the omission of starvation and bombings creates a meaningful metaphor for resilience or a sanitized, untruthful depiction of history. |
