Key opinion
You're Not You is widely regarded as a deeply emotional and poignant drama anchored by the powerful performances of its two leads. While some critics find the script formulaic and reminiscent of similar genre films, most audiences are moved by its honest exploration of friendship, life, and mortality.
| Acting | Hilary Swank delivers a physically demanding and emotionally resonant portrayal of ALS that effectively captures the tragedy of the disease. | |
| Acting | Emmy Rossum successfully breaks typecast expectations by bringing nuance and depth to the evolving character of the caregiver. | |
| Emotion | The film delivers a heavy, tear-inducing emotional experience that encourages viewers to reflect on their own lives and the importance of human connection. | |
| Originality | The narrative structure and character dynamics often mirror the successful French film 'The Intouchables,' leading to disagreements on whether the film is an original triumph or a derivative imitation. | |
| Screenplay | Opinions on the screenplay are divided; some praise the grounded, hyper-realistic depiction of final days, while others dismiss the writing as simplistic, hackneyed, or underdeveloped regarding supporting characters. |
