Key opinion
Zapped is largely viewed as a derivative and uninspired Disney Channel offering that fails to distinguish itself from previous studio projects. Critics find the narrative implausible and lacking in thematic substance, offering little value beyond a single watch for dedicated fans.
| Originality | The film relies on a tired, unoriginal formula that mimics previous Disney Channel projects without adding novelty. | |
| Screenplay | The plot is widely criticized for being implausible and relying on ridiculous mechanics like dog-food-powered phone control. | |
| Theme | The central message and thematic goals remain ambiguous, failing to land on a coherent point regarding control or character growth. | |
| Acting | While Zendaya's lead is expectedly formulaic, opinions on the supporting cast divide, with some finding them inadequate while others highlight Chanelle Peloso as a rare bright spot. |
