Key opinion
Tsui Hark's 'The Legend of Zu' is widely regarded as a visually ambitious but ultimately hollow experience. While some viewers appreciate the modernization of Chinese fantasy, the prevailing consensus criticizes the film for its shallow character development, incoherent narrative, and underdeveloped special effects.
| Screenplay | The characters lack depth and emotional resonance, making it difficult for the audience to connect with the story. | |
| Production | The film suffers from a poor post-production quality that leaves the visual effects feeling raw and unfinished. | |
| Score | The musical score is uninspired and fails to contribute positively to the viewing experience. | |
| Acting | Zhang Ziyi provides a notable performance that stands out as the singular highlight among an otherwise mediocre cast. | |
| Originality | The reliance on modern special effects divides viewers; some see it as a necessary evolution for the genre, while others find the resulting spectacle predictable and unengaging. |
